Cheesecake Factory’s Bang Bang Chicken & Shrimp Copycat Recipe

This dinner is the bomb. My husband always orders the Bang Bang Chicken and Shrimp at The Cheesecake Factory whenever we go. After sampling his dinner and then sampling it again, I decided to try and make it at home. I first used a recipe I found online and it was awful. Then, I just relied on my own smarts and it came out amazing! Imagine that

Tips For Bang Bang Shrimp

  • You can substitute shrimp with chopped chicken.
  • Use defrosted shrimp and not cooked shrimp.
  • There are two options for defrosting your shrimp. 1) The easiest way to defrost your shrimp os to remove your one pound frozen shrimp to a covered bowl and let them defrost in the refrigerator overnight. 2) To quickly defrost shrimp, place the one pound frozen shrimp in a fine-mesh sieve or colander. Place this sieve in a large bowl of cold tap water for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, replace the water in the bowl with new cold tap water and resubmerge the shrimp. Let shrimp sit an additional 10- 20 minutes. At this point the shrimp should be completely defrosted. Whatever you do, resist the urge to use warm tap water as this will cause the shrimp to defrost and cook unevenly.
  • Cook your shrimp with the tails on because the tail shells contain flavor that seeps out and we get more robust shrimp flavor. Once your shrimp is cooked and resting you can remove the tails if you desire.
  • This recipe calls for smooth peanut butter but if you only have crunchy peanut butter on hand, that will definitely work. Brands such as Skippy and Jif work best in this recipe as opposed to natural peanut butters because they dont melt as well.
  • If you dont have chicken broth on hand, you can substitute with water.

How To Make Bang Bang Chicken And Shrimp

Because this recipe is a bit labor intensive, I have broken it down for you into 4 easy steps. The first thing you should do is get the chicken and shrimp out of the way. Basically you just need to season them generously with salt and pepper then coat them in some cornstarch. Fry them in a little bit of oil on both sides until slightly golden and thats all there is to this step. While the chicken and shrimp are cooking, you could get your veggies ready by julienning the zucchini and carrot.

If you really want to save on time, you could use store bought peanut sauce, however, it literally took me like 3 minutes to make this peanut sauce. You basically just dump all the peanut sauce ingredients into a small sauce pan and bring it to a boil. Thats it.

The coconut curry is where youll spend most of your time with but its so worth it. This coconut curry is money, I should bottle this and sell it, its that good. I could eat it just on its own.

And finally the last step is just assembling your plates and making them as pretty as you get them from the restaurant. I love this dish and I think its perfect for a weekend dinner or maybe even a Valentines Day dinner.

How To Make Bang

CHEESECAKE FACTORY MUKBANG! BANG BANG CHICKEN & SHRIMP, CHICKEN SAMOSA’S, & PORK SLIDERS!

What makes this chicken taste so fabulous is the bang bang sauce that you mix together to put over the chicken.

The Yum Yum sauce is a simple recipe with just about 4 ingredients but really makes the chicken sing.

This dish can be made in 30 minutes. The thing that takes the longest is getting your mixes together to dip your chicken pieces in.

Once you dip the chicken, put it in the oil and fry up the pieces until they are golden brown on both sides.

I like to finish mine off in the oven just to make sure the chicken is completely cooked all the way through. This also keeps the chicken from getting too browned when I am frying it.

I want it to be golden brown, not a super dark brown with burned Panko crumbs.

Making my favorite restaurant dishes at home is a passion of mine. The Cheesecake Factory is one of those places that I find myself making dupe dishes all the time.

What Are The Ingredients In Bang Bang Shrimp

This Copycat Bang Bang Shrimp does have along list of ingredients but PLEASE dont be scared away. They are all pantry friendly ingredients that are just dump and simmer with no time/skill required so it is actually super easy to make!

Here is a rundown of the mentionable ingredients:

  • medium uncooked shrimp. I suggest medium uncooked shrimp for this Bang Bang Shrimp recipe that has already been peeled and deveined. Buying prepared shrimp makes your job a snap because all you have to do is defrost the shrimp. I like to buy my shrimp by the frozen bagful at Costco because they come shelled and deveined so all thats left to do is thaw.
  • Veggies. The vegetables used in Bang Bang Shrimp are carrots, zucchini and petite peas but feel free to use whatever you have on hand. This is a great clean-out-the-fridge meal.
  • Fish Sauce. Fish sauce is used in all Thai cooking and I promise it wont make your Bang Bang Shrimp taste fishy! If you must substitute, then replace it with soy sauce.
  • Sriracha. Use sriracha to make your Bang Bang Shrimp as spicy as you would like. The great thing about sriracha is you can add it after your Bang Bang Shrimp is cooked so you can taste your finished Bang Bang Shrimp first and then stir in sriracha to taste.
  • Garnish. Bang Bang Shrimp is made 1000X better with the garnish of toasted sweet coconut flakes, chopped peanuts and green onions. Dont skimp!

My hubby and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner on Saturday night prior to a show, which was a short walk away, at the Merriam Theater. We arrived around 5:45pm and were seated about 20 minutes later, which was the anticipated wait time according to the front desk. Our waiter, Logan, was very personable and attentive. The caesar salad was very fresh and tasty. My husband really enjoyed his Jamaican Black Pepper Chicken and Shrimp. The original cheesecake with glazed strawberries and whipped cream was delicious!

What You Will Need To Make Copycat Cheesecake Factory Bang Bang Shrimp:

  • Wide Stainless Steel Pan Using a wide stainless steel pan allows you to cook your shrimp in one batch. It also heats evenly and quickly which allows your food to cook faster and develop that pretty sear on seafood, chicken and meats that adds a lot of flavor. Stainless steel pans also clean up beautifully with a little baking soda so they still look brand new.
  • Garlic Press One of my moist used kitchen tools! I received mine as a gift years ago and I cant imagine why I never had one. It minces garlic with one squeeze, with the peel still on!
  • Microplane/Zester This is great for zesting ginger, garlic, citrus and even potatoes. You will use it practically every day!

Enjoy!
