Technically, yes. But I specifically designed this recipe to be quick, easy, and made in a single skillet in about 15 minutes.

Adding veggies would complicate the cooking process and prolong the cook time. If youd like vegetables with your garlic chicken, I recommend steaming or roasting some in another pot. That way, everything cooks at the same time!

An Easy & Flavorful Chicken Breast Recipe

There isnt much that cooks faster and is easier to make than stovetop skillet chicken breasts. I know all you busy mamas out there are with me.

I cant tell you how many times Ive taken chicken out in the morning with no plan for what Id actually do with it come dinnertime. Then I stood in front of my pantry scratching my head and just pulled something together.

Sometimes, when I do that, lightning strikes and something really magical is created. Thats what happened when I pulled together this recipe for my juicy skillet balsamic chicken breasts.

How Do You Cook Chicken Breast On The Stove Top

First, dry the chicken and season chicken breasts on both sides with salt and pepper or your favorite seasoning blend.

Next, heat your oil in the skillet. Add chicken to the pan in a single layer, leaving some space between each breast.

Then, when underside is nicely golden brown, flip the breasts and add butter to the center of the pan. Continue cooking until chicken reaches a safe internal temperature.

Finally, flip the chicken once more to each side if desired before plating. Allow meat to rest before slicing.

Heat oil in a skillet and place seasoned chicken breasts in to brown.

Learn how to make the best tender, juicy and delicious chicken breasts right on your stove-top in a grill pan or cast iron pan. I dont know where Id be without grilled chicken. I grill chicken all year for meal-prep and for so many recipes too. Grilled, skinless chicken breasts make a great addition to a healthy diet because they are low in calories and high protein. Eating chicken breast, without breading or skin, helps you eat fewer calories and even burn extra calories for effective weight loss. I always make extra and save it for salads, in burritos, pasta or meal prepping!

Because we dont always have access to the outdoor grill year round, I make the chicken on the stove-top most of the time. To make tender juicy grilled chicken you will need a heavy duty grill pan. A cast iron pan with ridges works best but if your cast iron pan doesnt have ridges, you can still grill the chicken on it too.

For the seasoning, I usually switch it up each time I make the chicken and dont really measure but for the sake of this recipe Ive included my favorite herb and seasoning mix. You can also used a packet of taco seasoning or your favorite herbs and spices and make it your own.

Notes About The Chicken

  • I used chicken cutlets in this recipe but you could just as easily use chicken breast. If you do use chicken breast, cut them in half through the middle. Then you might need to flatten them out a little with a kitchen mallet. If I do this, I cover the chicken with parchment paper and then lighten flatten it.
  • Fresh lemon juice is a must!!! Dont use the stuff that comes out a condiment bottle for this recipe, or you will be disappointed. This recipe is for lemon chicken and the lemon needs to be fresh!
  • Also, I used an extra lemon to cut into slices and place on top of the chicken while it finished cooking. This is totally optional and mostly for prettiness of the dish. So, you can leave that step off if you like. You will see this in the recipe below.

Butter is optional, but its such a good idea! After flipping, I add a tablespoon. Let the fat melt, then baste with it. The process coats the surface to prevent the meat from drying out. Throw in some sprigs of rosemary or thyme to infuse fresh herb aromatics into the dish.

When the milk solids brown, they add more color and a nutty flavor that sticks to the meat. Its delicious! I wait until after the initial sear because I dont want the water in the butter to interfere with browning or the solids to burn. You can skip this step, but Im a big fan of the extra flavor it creates.
