How Give Wings A Quick Broil

EASY Slow Cooker Chicken Wings Recipe

The wings are already cooked and you could just slather them in sauce. However, we like crispy skin so we add an extra step and give them a quick broil to crisp them. This does add to the cook time a little bit. I think it is worth it to get crispy chicken wings!

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Line the top of a baking sheet with aluminum foil to avoid a mess. You can also use it to create foil trays. This serves to divide your slow cooker chicken wings so you can keep different sauced wings separate.

Use tongs to lay the crock pot wings out onto the baking sheet with space between each one.

Then use a spoon to cover each wing in wing sauce.

Place baking pan in oven about 10 inches down from the heat source and bake for 5 minutes.

Pull out the baking pan and use tongs to flip over each wing.

Then use a spoon to cover the second side in sauce.

Place baking pan back in oven about 10 inches down from the heat source and bake for another 5 minutes.

Now your hot chicken wings will be nice and crisped up and totally flavorful and delicious!

You can pile them on a plate and serve with ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing for dipping. I also like to include carrot sticks and celery sticks for a crispy side that dips well too.

    Fresh Or Frozen Wings

First things first. Fresh or frozen wings? There are lots of options out there when it comes to chicken wings and we have some good and bad news for you:

Good news: You can buy either frozen or fresh chicken wings at the grocery store and either will work. Actually, we recommend buying them frozen because youre more likely to find a drummies + wings combo frozen than fresh!

The other nice thing about buying them frozen is youre more likely to be able to find the drummies and wings already separated than having to do it yourself, which is a mess. We know this from experience.

Bad news: if you buy frozen wings, we recommend thawing them before cooking them in the slow cooker. No worries, all you have to do is let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight and youre ready to go!

The reason why we suggest thawing them first is to make sure you eliminate any kind of food borne illness from happening.

How To Cook Hot Wings In A Crock Pot:

This crock pot chicken wings recipe is so easy! You will hardly believe how easy it is but the hot wings in crock pot taste fantastic without minimal effort. I like a recipe without too much fuss.

The first step is to take the whole chicken wings and cut them up into the 3 chicken wing sections- the drumette, the flat, and the tip. We dont use the wing tips in this hot wings recipe but you can save those for your slow cooker chicken stock recipe. Remember to wash your hands well and keep things sanitary when working with raw chicken.

Next up, just toss the wings with the herbs and spices and dump them in the slow cooker and set it on low for 4 hours. Or you can cook for 2 hours on high. The cooking time and temperature just depends on when you want them to be ready! If you are using frozen wings, it will be 3 hours on high.

When you pull the lid off a few hours later, you will find that the fat has largely cooked right off. Then you are left with tender wings. The cooking liquid can be tossed out, saved for your homemade chicken broth, or add a little back to your sauces.

The internal temperature of safely cooked chicken is a minimum of 165 °F. If youd like to use a meat thermometer to check them just stick it into the the thickest part of the meat and avoid the bone.

Mix up your simple wing hot sauces.

How Long Does It Take To Cook Chicken Wings In A Crock Pot

Chicken wings take a bit longer to cook in a Crock Pot than they would if you were to deep fry them, but you will end up with the most tender wings. These chicken wings take about 2.5-3 hours on high making them perfect to put into the slow cooker before your guests arrive.

I would suggest using a meat thermometer inserted into the meaty section of the wing. Once it reads a temperature of 165 degrees, your wings are done and ready. Make sure your thermometer does not hit the bone when checking the temperature, as your thermometer will not read correctly.

    How To Make Them

Pat the chicken wings completely dry and place them in the Crock Pot. Combine sauce ingredients. Set 1/2 cup aside and pour the rest over the chicken. Stir to combine.

Cover and cook for 2 hours on high, or 3-4 hours on low. They are done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Use kitchen tongs to carefully remove them and place them on foil-lined baking sheets. Brush with the reserved buffalo sauce.

Pro Tip: Place cooling racks on top of the baking sheet and place the wings on top. The extra air flow will make the wings crispier.

Preheat oven to a low broil, 450 degrees. Add the wings and cook for 10 minutes, until the top begins to brown.

Remove from the oven and brush with more Buffalo sauce. Broil for 8-10 more minutes or until crisped and slightly browned.

Remove and serve with blue cheese and celery/carrot sticks.
