Ranch Dutch Oven Roast Chicken In Oven Bag

The Dutch Oven Roast Chicken seasoned with Ranch flavor is easy to prep AND clean up thanks to heatproof oven bags! Thanks so much to Reynolds for sponsoring todays recipe.

Are you gearing up for the big feast this week? I talked to a friend yesterday, and she is expecting 17 people at her house for Thanksgiving. Thats a lot of people! I can only imagine the size of her turkey. I know you might have even more at your holiday gathering, but what if your crowd is much smaller, like only a few people?

If you dont need 20 pounds of poultry, you might like to try a roast chicken instead of turkey. This ranch roasted chicken recipe could be a small-scale holiday dinner, but its so easy that it could also be an anytime meal!

When I was invited to share a recipe using Reynolds Oven Bags, I thought about showing you how to roast a turkey, but Reynolds has already done an amazing job of that right here. I didnt want to reinvent the wheel, so I decided to bring you an easy dinner recipe that you can enjoy any time instead of just once or twice a year.

This dutch oven roast chicken recipe is fun and easy to cook and makes a perfect dinner for a weeknight or a special occasion! A whole chicken is marinated in milk and ranch seasoning, then baked with baby red potatoes and carrots. The cleanup is minimal thanks to Reynolds Oven Bags, plus baking the chicken in the heatproof, nylon bag makes for a perfectly moist bird!

When Everything Goes Wrong Chicken In The Bag

I decided to use my Garlicky Onion Seasoning and boost the flavor. Why not add some dill weed, chives, and dehydrated onion. I checked my pantry to make sure I had enough Garlicky Onion Seasoning as I didnt feel like making up a new batch. Sure enough, there was more than enough to use. That meant rinsing off the chicken placing the ingredients in the bag shaking it up so that all the ingredients get on the chicken piece then put the tie on the bag and place in the oven. Yep, its that easy.

Have you ever noticed that some days no matter what you do some things go wrong? What happened? Well, I couldnt find the zip tie to close the oven bag with. What to do? The bag was more than big enough so I just cut off a small portion of the top of the bag about a 1/2 inch worth and used it to tie the bag shut. Bingo Bango bag was closed. I placed it on top of my roasting pan and placed it in the oven. Then just sit back and enjoy until the timer on the oven goes off. Then snip the plastic oven bag off and add a little coconut oil to the skin of the chicken

How To Make Oven Bag Chicken:

Preheat oven to 350*. Place 2 Tablespoons of flour into the Reynolds Oven Bag, shake around.

In a small bowl mix together the salt, paprika, onion powder, dried thyme, chili powder, and pepper. Cover the outside of the chicken and under the skin with the spices.

Place the chicken in the bag. Then add the carrots, potatoes, garlic, and onions. Seal the bag with the twist tie provided and place in a large baking dish that is at least 2 inches high on the sides.

Cut six 1/2 slits in the top of the bag so the steam can escape. Make sure there is enough room in the oven to allow the bag to expand without touching any parts of the oven.

If you are baking chicken thighs bake about 45-50 minutes . If you are baking chicken breasts it will take about 55- 60 minutes.

To serve, just cut open the top of the bag and enjoy it. Just be careful as the steam escapes. It couldnt be easier to make a quick 1 pan dinner! I love meals that I can throw together and then throw away the mess.

We made this meal at my sisters house and there was plenty for everyone Even the little kids loved it and kept asking for more vegetables. Even the picky 4-year old that said she hated carrots.

What Goes In The Oven Bag With The Chicken

I put the chicken coated in garlic butter, vegetables and stock into the bag so I had a perfect one pot meal. I just needed to reduce the sauce a little afterward. Normally I would have roasted the potatoes to go with the roast chicken.

We love crispy potatoes and with this method the potatoes aren’t crispy. However, they have absorbed the buttery garlic flavours of the sauce as well as the chicken juices. This makes them really tasty, as are the carrots and sweet potatoes.

Above all, I highly suggest reading the instructions that come with the bags and follow the directions. In any case, the bags are simple to use. I personally add seasoning of my choice and the meat of my choice and cook according to directions. Place oven on the temperature that the instructions call for and cook accordingly. Thats it in a nutshell.

At a recent photoshoot, when I pulled out this old method of cooking chicken in a cooking bag, someone at the shoot asked me, Is this healthy? Cooking in a bag?

Firstly, the reason why I love cooking chicken and potatoes in a bag is that everyone loves the texture of the chicken and potatoes that result from this method. The chicken is soft and the potatoes are soft like butter. I feel its a foolproof method of cooking a pan of chicken and potatoes. I can also keep it on a lower temperature for hours until were ready to eat and its still as fresh and moist as it was after the initial cooking. No dry chicken or potatoes.

The home cook’s DIY version of the “chefy” technique: sous vide

    Kristen EppichUpdatedMay 7, 2012

    Michael Alberstat

If you are a culinary fan in any way via the web, TV cooking shows or venturing out to high end restaurants, there is no way you could have escaped the sous vide phenomenon. Sous vide is a cooking method where food is vacuum sealed, and then cooked at a low, consistent temperature, usually in a water bath. The virtues of sous vide are that it allows you to seal in the juices and because you control the desired finished temperature, it will never exceed the temperature of your water, meaning you cant overcook your food.

As the popularity of sous vide cooking has increased, so has the availability of pricey sous vide cookers and kits. Under the assumption that the majority of us will not opt to purchase said expensive implements I thought it worthwhile to explore the DIY version of sous vide, regardless of how much of a hack this may make me.
