Sweet Chick Chicken And Waffles Restaurant Opens Today
Sweetchick, the restaurant chain most known for its chicken and waffles, will open its doors today on Vernon Boulevard.
The eatery, located at 46-42 Vernon Blvd., serves a variety of Southern comfort foods including crusted catfish, duck and short rib meatloaf, and shrimp and grits. Brunch items include eggs Benedict, mac and cheese, and bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. Main plates vary between $9.00 and $26.00.
Dessert items include donut ice cream sandwiches, bourbon apple cobbler, and chocolate latte cake.
Sweet Chick also offers over 10 custom cocktails with names like Christopher Wallace, Purple Drank, and Cuffin Season.
The restaurant chain was founded in 2013 by John Seymour, who opened his first Sweet Chick restaurant in Williamsburg. The restaurant soon got the attention of Nas, who invested in and eventually became the co-founder of the chain. He is credited with spreading Sweet Chick to the west coast. Sweet Chicks Vernon Boulevard location, which was announced in November, marks the fifth for the chain.
The new restaurant will also feature a back room designed to look like old Harlem jazz clubs and as a tribute to Nas father, Olu Dara, a jazz musician. The back room will be available for parties and events.
Sweet Chick Is Coming To Lic
Yesterday we got the newsSweet Chick is opening their new LIC restaurant on Monday, April 9. Known for their modern fried chicken & waffles, its owned and operated by famous Queens rapper Nas and his restaurateur friend John Seymour, and they are proud to open their fourth NYC location in Nass hometown of LIC .
Particularly notable is the private back room exclusive to the LIC location. It is inspired by the jazz clubs of Harlem where Chicken & Waffles has its roots, and will be a nice resource for people looking to host special events and parties. We often hear from Queens folk looking for private event space, so this will likely be a good option for that.
On that topic of African-American jazz clubs in Harlem being the place where chicken & waffles originated, Nas speaks about that in Paper Magazine:
Years ago in New York City, the nightlife in Harlem alone would go to the wee hours of the morning. People wanted to enjoy fried chicken, but its also morning time. Its time for breakfast. Somehow those dishes wound up being the same dish. A lot of entertainers wouldnt want anything but chicken to eat at night, and then waffles in the morning. It stuck. You had lots of places in Harlem like Wells Chicken and Waffles, legendary places where your Duke Ellingtons and your Louis Armstrongs, your greats of the Harlem Renaissance, would dine its always been a New York thing.
Their hours are:

My friends brought me to this restaurant, I had no idea of the existence of Chicken and Waffle as I’m from Italy. For sure is not a “common” pairing, but it’s worth a try. This place was one of the best…quantity/quality value restaurants of all my trip in the US.It was two big pieces of fried chicken and 4 waffles. After the second waffle my limit of Italian relation with food went a bit to the limit but I managed to finish everything!I suggest this place. The place is very cool and I’ve spotted at the bar a bottle of Amaro Meletti, this was a huge surprise since it’s something very underground in Italy as well.More
We had a baby shower for 18 people in the back room that easily accommodated 18. The food was plentiful and very good and in the order of southern style. There was so much food we had plenty to take home. The venue was very…attractive. The wait staff was wonderful. Planning this event went well. The manager at the day of the shower was very accommodating. I highly recommend it.More
