You can check out that review here. The toasted cheese on the bun has been so popular, Wendy’s now features the bun in select chicken sandwiches in addition to the burger option.
So with that cheddar bun in mind, today I’m reviewing the Wendy’s Classic Big Bacon Cheddar Chicken Sandwich
Here’s the description from the Wendy’s website: A juicy, lightly breaded chicken breast covered in creamy cheddar cheese and bacon jam, topped with Applewood smoked bacon, crispy onions, and a slice of American cheese, all on a pillow-soft, toasted cheddar bun. If the world runs out of bacon and cheese, well take the blame.
This my friends is a very nice chicken sandwich! The chicken was fried perfectly, it was tender, juicy, the breading was seasoned well with a nice crunch. There’s A LOT of flavor going on with the bacon jam enhancing that Applewood smoked bacon, you get the notes of pimento in the creamy cheddar cheese. Despite the warmth of the sandwich, the sauces and melted American cheese, the crispy onions remained crispy. Tying it all together was the toasted cheddar bun, which elevates the sandwich.

Wendy’s has done a total overhaul of its menu as of late with a French fry makeover and the introduction of its Big Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger. If the latter announcement was the peak of your week , then I’ve got news for you: You can get the monstrous, pork-piled sandwich with crispy fried chicken instead.
Alongside its all-new bacon cheeseburger, Wendy’s is rolling out a Big Bacon Cheddar Chicken Sandwich, marking the fast food joint’s fourth addition to its Made to Crave menu this year.
The classic style features a lightly breaded chicken breast with creamy cheddar cheese, bacon jam, applewood-smoked bacon, crispy onions, and a slice of American cheese sandwiched between a toasted cheddar bun. Yep, even the bun has cheese baked into it.
Here’s the real kicker, though, the original isn’t the only route to go. The Big Bacon Cheddar Chicken Sandwich also comes in spicy and grilled iterations. The Spicy version boasts all the same toppings with a crispy chicken breast that’s been fried with a fiery blend of peppers and spices. For a somewhat healthier take on the menu addition, you can also go grilled with an herb-marinated chicken breast.

From a nutritional standpoint, this menu addition doesnt exactly butter Yawitzs biscuit. For starters, this bad boy has a lot of sugar. The breading on the chicken patty has sugar. The biscuit has sugar. The hot honey sauce has honey, obviously, but also two different kinds of sugar , says Yawitz.
Moreover, Yawitz isnt a fan of this sandwichs measly protein content, clocking in at only 14 grams. breakfast certainly wont help you pack on the muscle and probably wont hold you over until lunch either.
As Yawitz says, protein helps keep you off the blood sugar roller coaster by slowing down the absorption of glucose into the blood. In the long term, better blood sugar control typically equates to a lower risk of diabetes. But in the short term, it may help fend off food cravings.
To that point, Yawitz highlights one small study, in which men who ate a high-carb, high-protein breakfast had better post-meal blood sugar control and insulin levels than men who didnt have as much protein.
Interestingly, the breakfast in this study included 50 grams of carbohydrate from white bread and sugar, she says, pointing out the similarities between that and the chicken sandwich at hand. Assuming the same calorie content, Wendys would need more than double the protein to achieve the same blood sugar-stabilizing effects.

Wendy’s Will Be Adding These Four Items To The Menu Soon According To A Leaked Memo
It’s been a minute since Wendy’s made any exciting announcements about its menu , but that could change in a few weeks. According to one Reddit user who consistently delivers reliable insider information, the pigtailed chain is about to make customers very happy with the return of several beloved menu items as well as a new breakfast option.
According to a screenshot of an alleged internal Wendy’s email, the chain will be welcoming back the entire Pretzel Bacon Pub lineup in August.
“We are thrilled to bring back the fan favorite Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger and Chicken Sandwich, along with Pub Fries,” the memo reads. The items, which have been absent since they were replaced by the Big Bacon Cheddar burger and chicken sandwich, have been some of the most popular Made to Crave additions ever launched.

The Pub line was first introduced in 2020, after a long journey through Wendy’s R& D process. Fans will recall that the chain released its first Pretzel Burger in 2013 for a limited time, but it was taken off the menu shortly after despite its popularity. Fast-forward to the fast-food boom at the height of the pandemic, and Wendy’s VP of culinary innovation John Li was tasked with developing a line extension based on the successful item.

Wendys Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich
This sandwich contains 700 calories, 37 grams protein, and 70 g carbohydrate .
Like the sandwich above, Yawitz doesnt think its worth incorporating this sandwich into your diet, especially regularly. The only thing it has going for it is a hefty protein content, she says, noting that hot honey is essentially a code for sugar bomb. In fact, as Yawitz shared, this chicken sandwich has more sugar than a pudding snack pack.

Theres no way to get around the high-sugar content in this sandwich, but there is a slightly healthier alternative on the menu, she says. That option is the Grilled Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich, which will save you 16 grams of total carb, mostly in the form of breading, says Yawitz.
The grilled version is also slightly higher in protein and slightly lower in sodium than its deep-fried cousin, she says. Ordering the grilled version wont give you six-pack abs, but its certainly an upgrade compared to the classic.
